Identity Card - Carta d'identità
The identity card of the Italian Republic is one of the recognition documents provided for in Italy by law. It is used by the person to whom it is registered as a personal identification document, and as a document for expatriation (in the states that accept it instead of the passport for citizens of a given state if valid and authorized for this purpose) or requested by who provides the service or sells a commodity to identify the customer.
After you received your Permesso di Soggiorno, you can now begin to obtain your Italian Carta d'Identita (National Identity Card).
Identity Cards are issued or renewed at the Registrar offices of the Municipality of Milan (Anagrafe del Comune di Milano). Milan is divided into zones and each zone has a local Registrar office. There are a total of 9 zones.
